Mandolin Symposium Financial and Scholarship Guidelines

The Scholarship program at the Mandolin Symposium is designed to assist Students with financial aid. We believe that this educational experience should be available to a wide range of students and we have asked for financial contributions that will help those that cannot afford all the costs of attending. To help support the Scholarship Fund, the Mandolin Symposium will fund 25% of the Mandolin Symposium Fee (that portion which are not housing costs) to help our Fund be dispersed to a wider base. Scholarships will be awarded on a partial to full basis. This commitment by the Mandolin Symposium is designed to assist more students with Financial Aid.

We may limit the amount of students that we are able to help to ensure that the Scholarship Program will be passed on from year to year. The review committee does not have to award all available funds in the scholarship period. Monies not awarded during the scholarship year will be carried over into the next year's appropriations.

Students are awarded scholarships based upon merit and need. The Scholarship Committee reviews all applications for Financial Assistance. Please note that if students are less than 18 yrs old they will need to have a Chaperone accompany them to the Mandolin Symposium if they are staying on campus.

General Requirements
Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarship Committee, based on the students' application and on the recommendation of the Instructors. Applicants will be considered only when the following information is on file:

  1. Completed admission application
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. A letter written by the applicant as to why they are applying for and need a Scholarship.

  5. In order to better evaluate an applicant’s needs, we will need a statement accurately reflecting your gross family annual income and how many in your household. (We may also require some Financial Information later from applicants if they are applying based upon Financial Need.)

The following Criteria will be used to evaluate the Applicants.

  • A student’s musical ability.
  • Other costs associated with a student attending the Symposium.
Travel costs, need for a family member to attend, etc.
  • Financial needs of an individual.
  • The credibility of the writers of the letters of Recommendation and what they say about the Applicants ability
