Eric Stein

Toronto’s Eric Stein is a multi-instrumentalist (mandolin, bass, cimbalom) and a leading figure in Canada’s folk, world and Jewish-roots music scenes. He is founder/leader of the innovative klezmer/world fusion group Beyond the Pale, with whom he has released three award-winning CDs and performed across North America, Europe, Brazil and Australia. Eric also leads Canada's only Brazilian choro ensemble Tio Chorinho, and is a member of the Ger Mandolin Orchestra, a unique international “supergroup” that re-creates a pre-WWII Polish-Jewish mandolin orchestra.

Eric has performed with a number of leading artists, including Theodore Bikel, Mike Marshall, Arlo Guthrie, Frank London, Socalled, and Flory Jagoda, and has served as orchestral soloist with various Canadian chamber groups and symphonies. Since 2006, Eric has served as Artistic Director of Toronto’s Ashkenaz Festival, one of the world’s largest celebrations of Jewish music and culture.
